Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers about 3DToolBox — what the tools do, which formats they open, how privacy works, and what things cost (nothing).
Is 3DToolBox free?
Yes. All three tools — the 3D text generator, the model viewer and the texel density calculator — are free with no sign-up, no watermark and no usage caps. A paid Pro plan with batch export and high-resolution rendering is planned at $6–9 per month, but the free tools will stay free.
Do my files get uploaded?
No. Models, images and text are processed locally in your browser with WebGL and the File API. The site has no upload endpoint and keeps no copy of your files.
Which file formats does the model viewer open?
GLB, GLTF, STL and OBJ. Self-contained GLB files work best. A .gltf or .obj that relies on separate texture or material files will load its geometry without those external textures.
What can I export from the 3D text generator?
PNG images (handy for logos and thumbnails), STL files for 3D printing, and GLB models for game engines, Blender and web projects.
Why does a model look different here than in Blender?
Shape and scale are exact; shading depends on lighting and environment. This viewer uses a neutral studio environment, so judge geometry and proportions here and final materials in your target application.
What is a good texel density for games?
A common baseline is 5.12 px/cm (512 px per meter) for PC and console, 2.56 px/cm for background and mobile content, and 10.24 px/cm for hero assets that get close to the camera. Consistency across a scene matters more than the exact value.
Does 3DToolBox work on phones?
Yes, the pages and viewers are responsive and touch orbit controls work. Very large models may be slow on older devices because rendering happens on your GPU.
